CedarCreek winery

Video on CedarCreek will be loaded on the site tomorrow. Check it out. They make one of the best Syrah in the Okanagan.

Pol Roger Rose 2000

Stunning vintage Rose from Pol Roger. Showing maturity with a touch of orange to the pale salmon pink, gorgeous complex and delicate nose of raspberries and toast. Dry, quite full, yet elegant, with perfectly balanced acidity, low tannins, some red berry and tobacco notes, and a loooooooog finish.

Pink Champagne can be so disappointing these days because of the boom for this style, but not our dear friends at Pol with this lovely 2000 vintage. $94

Montecillo Rioja Gran Reserva 2001

I had a 1st class Spanish Rioja tonight. Stunning complexity in a wine at $35 with plenty of maturity (2001) and supple tannins. Spain strikes again.

It highlights the fact that so many wine producers in the New World release wines far too young and tannic, not showing any of their true class. I think all regions should follow the Spanish wine regulations that prohibit release of certain classes of wine before certain minimum ages have been reached. It may require extra financing of the stock for the winery but then you have a long term customer.

I don’t even need to taste the Painted Rock new red release to know it is far too young and far too expensive to be released in the 2007 vintage. $55 compared to this Rioja 2001 at $35 when the Rioja has had 117% government mark-up for import wines and the Painted Rock has had none. Get real.
